The absurdity of some of the songs and embracing the absurdity of darkness and cynicism is perhaps more elevated. Perhaps the most ever for the Decemberists.Ĭertainly darker than the last couple. It feels like there’s a lot of darkness on this album. You have to take these risks to keep moving forward. We’ve done this before with varying degrees of success.
